We worked alongside art director, Sarah de Beaumont, to bring her innovative vision to life for the installation of the new collection of Julien Scarbonchi’s for Pouenat.
Scarbonchi’s work is defined by a playful and theatrical approach to design, and his latest collection draws inspiration from the staging of the opera Rigoletto. Each piece is presented in oversized cardboard boxes, creating a captivating sense of anticipation as the container is opened, transforming the unveiling process into a performance in itself.
The furniture pieces emerge as if they were actors on stage, but with a quirky twist. Imagine a coffee table placed in front of a partially cut sofa, a console juxtaposed with a similarly truncated mirror, and a chandelier suspended above a dining table—also cut in an unexpected manner. This bold staging plays with perspectives, elevating the key pieces of the collection and highlighting their unique design.
The raw materials of cardboard and plaster, used for the boxes, create a striking contrast with the luxury and refinement of the exhibited furniture, allowing these pieces to truly shine. In addition, Scarbonchi’s older works, some dating back 20 years, are displayed in curated showcases organized by color, while other pieces are carefully placed throughout the space, allowing visitors to immerse themselves fully in his artistic universe.
This collaboration brought together innovation, craftsmanship, and artistic expression, and we are proud to have been part of bringing this one-of-a-kind installation to life.
